The candidates' booklet

To make sure as many people as possible know about the London
elections, London Elects produces and distributes an information
booklet. If you are a registered London voter you will receive a
copy in the post before election day. The booklet
contains manifestos from the Mayoral candidates, information about
how to vote and lists of all the candidates standing for the London
Assembly.
All the mayoral candidates had the opportunity to add their own
'mini-manifesto' to the booklet in return for £10,000 towards the
printing and distribution costs. Nine of
the 10 candidates chose to do so.
The booklet is 32 pages, with each candidate having two pages of
A5 for their manifesto. The Greater London Returning Officer (GLRO)
- Anthony Mayer - drew lots to decide the order that the manifestos
appear in. The order is as follows:
- Richard Barnbrook, British National Party
- Lindsey German, Left List
- Boris Johnson, Conservative Party
- Sian Berry, Green Party
- Brian Paddick, Liberal Democrats
- Gerard Batten, UK Independence Party
- Alan Craig, Christian Peoples Alliance and Christian Party
- Matt O'Connor, English Democrats
- Ken Livingstone, The Labour Party
Winston McKenzie, an independent candidate, chose not to enter a
manifesto into the booklet.
London Elects issued the guidance to candidates on how they
should supply their manifestos and what content was
acceptable. The candidates were responsible for
developing their manifestos but the GLRO had final say on what
could and could not be included in the booklet.
London Elects will start to send out the booklets to postal
voters from 16 April and all registered London voters should
receive a booklet by 28 April.
